Maritime Transport Logistics Hub – Trafford Park, Manchester

Overview

Deseco was tasked with designing the infrastructure for a cutting-edge commercial transport office complex in Trafford Park, Manchester, aimed at significantly enhancing Maritime Transport’s operational efficiency, sustainability, and technological capabilities. The project included a large external yard for fleet storage and servicing, optimising both logistical operations and environmental performance. The design focused on integrating innovative mechanical and electrical systems tailored to the specific needs of the logistics industry, while emphasising energy efficiency, sustainability, and advanced yard management solutions. The goal was to create a highly efficient and future-proof logistics hub that could set a new standard for similar facilities in the sector.

One of the standout features of the project was the development of a hybrid HVAC system that combined conventional cooling methods with geothermal heating. By utilising the earth’s natural temperature, this system dramatically reduced energy consumption, offering a highly sustainable solution for large office complexes in the logistics industry.

The facility’s power infrastructure was also uniquely designed to incorporate both solar panels and wind turbines, all connected to a smart grid with battery storage. This combination of renewable energy sources significantly reduced the reliance on traditional energy, making the facility one of the most sustainable logistics hubs in the region.

To support the high-power equipment needed for modern logistics operations, the electrical system was tailored to handle demands such as electric truck chargers and automated maintenance tools. Redundant pathways were built into the design to ensure maximum reliability and operational continuity.

This project demonstrates Deseco’s ability to create innovative, sustainable, and resilient infrastructure solutions that not only meet today’s logistical demands but also prepare facilities for future advancements in energy and technology.
